Born in Taichung, Taiwan, Christine Hsin-Yi Lin (b.1997) began her piano studies at the age of 5 and saxophone studies at the age of 13. She had studied with various lecturers and professors namely Wang-Ching Shiu, Yu-Wen Wang, Chun-Yuan Cheng and Hung-Ta Wei.
She has also attended lessons and masterclasses by Yann Lemarie, Joshua Hyde, Asagi Ito, Tae Young Kim, Nele Tiebout and taken jazz lesson with Dr. Scott Turpen.
Christine also has a great passion for ensemble playing. She joined and performed with the Stella Matutina Girls’ High School Wind Band, Viator Symphonic Band, Central Taiwan Youth Sax Ensemble and Ark Sax Quartet.
She had won many prizes in several competitions. She was a finalist of the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy 2017, finalist of National Student Competition of Music 2015 and the 2nd prize of MinXiong Music Competition 2014. In addition, she also won numerous awards with her bands such as the 2nd prize of Taichung City Saxophone Competition 2016 and the 1st prize of National Student Competition of Music 2011.
Her enthusiasm in playing the saxophone motivated her to participate in numerous saxophone activities to hone her skills in the instrument and to gain more musical exposure. She held a recital entitled “Fantaisie” at the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Nantou County in 2015. She was also a participant at the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy 2017 and recently has been selected to attend the “Taiwan × Japan Saxophone Exchange Activity 2018”.
Currently she is having her Bachelor’s Degree in music, majoring in saxophone in Soochow University (the class of Kenny Chia-Hsiu Tsai) with the university’s scholarship. She is also a member of Soochow University Wind Band and Soochow University Saxophone Quartet as she thinks she couldn’t continue to improve her skills and musical touches without the help and encouragement within the group.
