Scarlet Gouk Yan Tong (b. Malaysia, 30May 1994) has become one of the most prominent classical saxophonist in Malaysia. She is the first champion at the inaugural Asia Pacific Saxophone Competition 2017 in Thailand.
Scarlet graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art, Diploma in Music with the Best Student Award 2014. She has obtained the Bachelor Degree of Music Performance in College of Music, Mahidol University with scholarship awards under Prof. Shyen Lee and Wisuwat Pruksavanich. Scarlet had studied with renowned saxophonists, including Jean-Marie Londeix, William Street, Rodrigo Villa, Kenneth Tse, Lars Mlekusch and Chien-Kwan Lin.
Scarlet is active in performing and coaching young saxophonists around Asia. She has given workshops at Malaysian Institute of Art in 2016, Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre in 2018 under Taxkor Duo project hosted by Birdian Saxophone Ensemble Kuala Lumpur. Taxkor Duo also performed with Prof. Rodrigo Vila and Psaiko Quartet (Spain) in “Yamaha Daya International Saxophone Artist Special Concert, China” and Bun-Leng Quartet project II at Yamaha Malaysia. Scarlet is also actively participated in Salaya Saxophone Ensemble. The ensemble has won 2ndprize in Thailand International Wind Ensemble Competition 2018 and performed in Singapore Symposium 2016 and 2018, 1stAsia Saxophone Congress 2017 and in various occasions.
Currently, Scarlet is under the tutelage of Prof. Chien-Kwan Lin in Eastman School of Music.
