Born in 1986, Passakorn Morasilpin started playing the saxophone at 13 years of age. He began his music career at the age of 15 when he started performing at a number of well-known jazz clubs in Bangkok, including Brown Sugar and Saxophone Pub. He studied Classical Saxophone at the College of Music, Mahidol University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Silpakorn University with a full scholarship.
He has studied with top Thai and international musicians including Nicholas LaFleur, Koh Mr. Saxman, Roger Greenberg, Shuichi Komiyama, Pisut Pratheepasean, Jakob Dinesen and Tony Lakatos.
He has worked with many Thai artists as a sideman and studio musician, and has played with many respected international artists including Inger Marie, Lewis Pragasam, Simone Kopmajer, Ulf Wakenius, Malene Mortensen, Mokhtar Samba and John Di Martino. He has performed around the world in countries including the United States, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Macau, Taiwan and China.
He has also received multiple awards over the years including 2nd Place (2005) and 1st place (2006, 2007) award in the category of Outstanding Musicians in the first-ever Thailand Jazz Competition , featured soloist with legendary Thailand fusion jazz band “The Infinity” - renowned for being the first ever fusion jazz band in Thailand (2007), one of three finalists in the Thailand International Jazz Conference Solo Competition (2009), performed on the album “The Infinity 10 and Jazz Corners All Stars feat. Bob James” (2011), finalist in the Cotai Jazz & Blues Competition (2013). 3rd Place award in the Taichung Saxophone Competition (2014) and finalist of the Made In New York Jazz Competition (2018).
As a band leader, he has released three albums. His debut album “My Diary” released in 2013 was inspired by his past and features a juxtaposition of Thai traditional instruments and his own inimitable style. This album won Best Instrumental Album in the Komchadluek Awards #11 in which Passakorn was also nominated as the Best New Artist. In 2014, he released his second album “The Diary II : Tears Hope Sea Starlight (Dedicated To South Thailand Insurgency)”. He received the Best Instrumental Album on Season Awards #26 in 2013 & 2014. In 2016, he released his third album “Foliage Diary III : From The Veins of The Leaf”. He received the Best Instrumental Album on Season Awards #28 in 2016.
